Bruce attends Canada Post Honouring of Afro-Canadians Who Shaped History

Bruce Ralston was very pleased to attend the Canada Post launch in honour of Rosemary Brown and Doris Shadd, Afro-Canadians who shaped history.

Story from Canada Post:
Acknowledging February as Black History Month, Canada Post has issued commemorative stamps featuring two black pioneering figures, Abraham Doras Shadd (1801-1882) and Rosemary Brown (1930-2003).

Although the two public officials were from very different eras, their contributions in shaping today’s Canada brought them together in the same celebration.

Ralston hosts anti-crime forum Saturday, speaks at rally Sunday

"Surrey needs action on crime now," says Surrey Whalley MLA Bruce Ralston, who took part in two anti-crime events this past weekend.

Ralston hosted a forum on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Olympia Restaurant which included presentations from the RCMP and community leaders. On Sunday (Feb. 22), he was a guest speaker at the highly-publicized anti-crime rally at Surrey Central Plaza.

The Olympia Restaurant was packed on Saturday as restaurant staff moved aside some of the tables to accommodate the large crowd. That forum was the third in a series of crime forums hosted by Surrey-Whalley MLA Bruce Ralston and the Surrey RCMP Crime Prevention Team.

Butting political heads on Budget '09; Campbell still out of touch with what the people need

February 18, 2009 VANCOUVER SUN - SPECIAL

Eight weeks before the election, British Columbians are worried about their jobs and the services they need to get through tough times.

But just like in 2001 and 2005, Premier Gordon Campbell offers a sad collection of empty promises that do nothing to help B.C. families through difficult times. The question is why, after eight years of longer waiting lists, overcrowded emergency rooms, and larger class sizes, should we believe him this time?

Look past the rhetoric and more closely at the numbers, and it's clear Campbell can't be trusted to keep his promises.

Campbell Gov't Resorts to Desperate Attacks to Cover Up True Costs of the Port Mann

New Democrat Finance Critic Bruce Ralston says the Campbell government is showing real desperation in its political attacks as Liberal cabinet ministers respond to an embarrassing parade of cost overruns and failed financing schemes for important infrastructure projects. Ralston says B.C. Liberal Mary Polak’s attack on the Opposition over the Port Mann bridge project is misleading and dishonest. “Polak’s attack is a desperate attempt to cover up the true costs of the Port Mann Bridge to B.C. taxpayers and the delays caused by Gordon Campbell’s inability to admit his financing scheme was a failure,” said Ralston. “If Polak spent more time explaining the true costs of the bridge and less time blowing smoke in an effort to mislead the public, maybe we’d have a better idea of why costs have gone from 1.5 billion to over 3 billion dollars. “The Campbell government is well aware that the Opposition supports a new bridge over the Fraser," said Ralston. "However we support, as part of an overall transportation plan, cost effective measures with immediate investments in buses, light rail, and rapid transit to reduce gridlock before 2013. “If Polak was truly interested in helping commuters and making good on her government’s ‘green agenda,’ she would stand up to Gordon Campbell and join Carole James in demanding real solutions for traffic gridlock.”
